I am a licensed cosmetologist in the state of tn and I will be renting a booth in a salon can you tell me what the cost is for county and state license for me as a cosmetologist renting a booth from the salon owner.

i m looking at statrting my own business a threading salon can u tell me step wise on how to go about does a salon need to be an LLC or PLLC. My business would be a salon for braiding and selling hair oils and lotions. What all would I need in order to operate properly and legally I'm in cosmetology school and we are required to find out what kind of license we need and our salon would need Im not looking to purchase the license yet. I want the forms that you have to fill out I need to see the form that i have to fill out we are about to launch a salon services app with products Hi I am opening a hair salon. I will be selling hair products. 

Do I need to obtain a wholesale license for this as well? I have obtained all of the licenses for my salon but was not sure about this one I am located in i Have those already just not a wholesale license would i need this to sell products?What kind of Lisense do I need to open a nail salon.

First decide on a business structure Salon as a Sole Proprietor, LLC/Corp, or Partnership.


Note that each structure requires a filing. E.g., selecting an LLC, requires at least an LLC certificate, an LLC operating agreement, a business license and a federal tax ID number.

All Salon Businesses need a , Business tax registration also called an occupation business License

To start a  salon , you will need a cosmetology license or a partner or worker that has a cosmetology license to provide hair-cutting and styling, coloring, shampooing,  permanents, nail care, facial treatments, makeup, bikini waxing, massage, tanning, and other types of spa and salon treatments.  I addition, you will need to get licenses as discussed below.

There are about 87,000  Salons 5% percent of which are barber shops.  The annual income of these establishments is about $21 billion. 51 of the Major Salons  companies include American Haircuts, Regis, Ratner Companies, Premier Salons, and Sport Clips, Vidal Sasson etc generate 17 percent of the industry revenue. 

Income is generated from services so you will need highly skilled employees whose average annual revenue per employee is about $42,000. 

Revenue growth is expected to grow by of 3.3% to $50 billion

If consumer income increases,  hair salon customers to spend more on services like manicures, pedicures, facials, hair modification treatments, and massages.  Beauty salon income will most likely increase from 5.4%  to 5.8% in the next few years. That means that there will be a higher percentage


Salon  Supply 

Salon   continues to expand. The industry includes specialty beauty shops, providing services such as cosmetics, hair, nail and skin care products. Income for Beauty Supply Stores revenue grows with an annual rate of 0.4%, recently reaching an expected $9.4 billion. In addition to standard Beauty supply store products, a lot of Beauty Supply Stores offer hair color and care, skin and nail care, cosmetics, electrical appliances and other miscellaneous beauty products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments such as oils, serums, hair loss treatments, and keratin treatments aimed at strengthening and improving the health of hair,  hair sprays, hair glosses, gels and glues, mousses and foams, hair root lifters, pomades, pastes, waxes and a number of other products.

So, 
Salon   sellS beauty supply  merchandise, such as beauty accessories such as perfumes, natural beauty enhanced products, bath and spa accessories such as candles  and bath soap, fashion make up and fashion items, such as jewelry, fake eyelashes, head bands, head clips, etc.   

These items are subject to sales tax  so the first thing is to get a sellers permit to buy merchandise wholesale and sell it retail. 

Aside from that, you then need to select your beauty supply store business structure: Sole Proprietor, Partnership, LLC or Corporation.  

The above step is important business all  Store  documents will be filed under the type of business organizational structure. 

Of course, you can have a brick and mortar, road side, mobile or online store. 

All of these require the same licensing not because of the type of location but because there  are all businesses.

After that, you will need to obtain a beauty supply store business permit.  

This is a general business permit that all new businesses must obtain.

More than 31% of the GNP, though, less than $5,000,000.00 is generated through retail sales business. 

Though less than 2 million retail businesses, there is about 1.6 ml retail stores not including online retail. 

  Note that in the majority of the beauty supply store cases you do not need to obtain a business permit that is specifically for your type of business. 

You only need a general business permit.

  In addition, all 
Salon  businesses must be identified by a business tax ID called a federal tax ID number or Employer Identification Number (EIN). 

If you file as a beauty supply store sole proprietor, you can use your social security number instead of the federal ID. 

  Then, 99% of all stores require a sellers permit if you sell merchandise wholesale or retail.  The sellers permit is also called state ID, wholesale ID, resale ID, or re-seller license.  

If you are an employer, you will need a federal employer Number and a State Employer Number. 

If you do business as a name other than your full legal name, for example, you do business as "ABC 
Salon   Store," you will need to file a doing business as (DBA) filing.  

Finally, you have the option or incorporating or forming an LLC. Setting up as one of these corporate entities allows you not to file a DBA.

No you just need one for your business state.

Does a Import Export Home Based Business Need a Sellers Permit? What other permits and Tax IDs Does a Home Based Business Needs to Legally Start business operations?
A home based business needs a sellers permit if it sells or leases products or equipment that is taxable. All products, food, equipment that anyone can touch is taxable.
In addition, a home based business must decide on the business type of organization as a sole proprietor, LLC, partnership or corporation.
Furthermore, a general business permit and a federal tax ID number is also required for any of the above business type organizations.
Note that the majority of home or other businesses do not need a specific type of general business permit. They only need a general business permit. Even if they need a specific Import Export business permit, as is the case of a learned professional or a tradesman, they still need a general business permit in addition to their professional or trade license.
The only exception to a federal tax ID number is a Import Export sole proprietor, who can use a ss# instead of a Federal ID.
However, even sole proprietors as well as all other business type organizations that are employers, independent contractors, LLCs, or corporation must obtain a federal tax ID number.
Any type of business organization, including sole owners, must obtain a state employer tax ID if hiring employees.
Finally, a sole owner (i.e., an one person business) can obtain and use a federal ID as a business tax ID instead of the social security number and, in addition, he or she can form an LLC or set up a corporation instead of organizing as a sole proprietor.
Most Import Export businesses do not need any surety bond insurance either but they can optionally purchase it and also purchase a general liability business insurance or home business insurance.

There are some states that require specific auctioneer registration but in most you just need regular licenses as discussed below:
First, select your Auction business structure: Sole Proprietor, Partnership, LLC or Corporation.
Then, a seller's permit is required if you sell merchandise wholesale or retail.
If you are an employer, you will need a federal employer Number and a State Employer Number.
Users of a trade name will need a fictitious business name filing.
Even if they need a specific business permit, as is the case of a learned professional or a tradesman, they still need a general business permit in addition to their professional or trade license.
