Set up an LLC here for $50 plus state fees. It is a preferable ownership structure because of its flexibility in % in ownership and corporate formalities, i.e., there are no corporate minutes to hold unless you treat the LLC as a "C" corporation.

In more than 90% of setting up a business and selecting an ownership structure from sole proprietor, LLC, or Partneship, forming an LLC (Limited Liability Co.) is better than filing a DBA or setting up an S Corporation because an LLC protects both your personal and the LLC assets. E.g., In the unfortunate case where Michae is sued for an LLC business wrong, a judgement creditor cannot seize Michaels personal assets nor the LLC assets. Also, because an LLC does not require formalities such as keeping minutes, an LLC is better than a C or S corporation for small starting businesses. I am an ecommerce store that sells pet food and toys and supplies. I am independant site selling to the USA. I just plan to do dog walking, babysitting, house cleaning, pet/house sitting I want to start an online pet store.

Do i have to have a dba right away or can i wait a little while and make sure my animals will sell? I am wondering about the fictitious name search? Is that still done with everything being on the internet and not too much in paper?

Even though you are a home business you still need all permits and tax ID numberss like any other businesss. Online business operated from home need to obtain a home occupation business permit and a fictitious business name if a DBA fictitious name is used to conduct businesss.     If you sell anything hazardous such as chemicals you will need a special location for the merchandise.   Sometimes the county will ask for an inspection if you manufacture or store anything hazardous.   If you store a small amount of merchandise in your apartment it should be ok.   Make sure you do not have too many deliveries by truck to your home if this is a home business.  
I am a home based business. Do I need licensing? Do internet businesses operated from home need to obtain permits and tax IDs? . Physical location business. What if my business is not located in the city limits?     There will be no hazardous merchandise in my home stored or made.   I will not store any merchandise in my home or apartment.   There will be no deliveries of merchandise to my home address.

I want to plan a craft show here in Laredo, TX. Do I need a permit to hold a craft show? Where would I find this information out?

Thanks Going to sell homemade crafts - i think I would be a sole proprietor but not sure what about a peddler street vendor? I will be mostly going to craft show and would this be more appropriate than a business license?

Do I have to be a formal business in order to make handmade crafts and sell them online or from a store?

Yes, you need to become a business to sell handmade crafts. 

Thus, you first, select your business structure: Sole Proprietor, Partnership, LLC or Corporation. 

Then, a sellers permit is required to buy your craft materials wholesale and sell retail  if you sell handmade crafts merchandise wholesale or retail. 

If you are an employer, i.e., if you hire anyone to help you with handmade craft making, you will need a federal employer Number and a State Employer Number. 

Users of a trade name will need a fictitious business name filing.  For example, if you name your handmade craft business "Crafty but Arty," you will need to officially register that business name.

Finally, you have the option or incorporating or forming an LLC for your handmade craft business.
