Even though you are a home business you still need all permits and tax ID numberss like any other businesss. Yes, we will email and mail it to you shortly. However small, an operation for profit is a business and the IRS has determined that any small or big profit from wherever derived, is taxable and needs all licensing and tax registrations like any business. Applies to home and online business as well.

Do you need a resale/sellers permit with an LLC in the state of Pennsylvania, or only as a DBA? Hi, I am a Cosmetology Student at Savannah Tech. I am taking a class that requires me to gather information if we were to start our own business. I need to know the cost of obtaining a business license if I were to open a hair salon . Also and other licenses/permits/info with cost would be most helpful.

Yes, you need a resale/sellers permit with an LLC in the state of Pennsylvania. The LLC or DBA is part of your business tax structure.

An LLC certificate is needed for LLC structures and if sole proprietor, you need to file a DBA in order to register your business name.

So if your business name is "Clippety-Do-Dah" and you decide the sole proprietor business entity structure, you need to file a Doing Business As (DBA) certificate to register the Clippety-Do-Dah name.

For hair salon or any salon, you will need the seller's permit to buy the cosmetics and other hair products wholesale and sell them retail or use them on salon clients. Additionally, you will need to set up an organizational structure.

I.e., to form a business entity such as a sole propr. LLC, or corp. Finally, get an EIN and a business license and if hiring, a state EIN as well.
