If you own your own business and you are an employee, you will need to get a state ein and a federal ein (you can obtain them here online). However, it is better that you act as an owner operator and pay self employment taxes. Otherwise, you will need to pay employment taxes as an employer and employee.

All businesses need a business license and a registration of the business name. If you sell merchandise, lease equipment etc., you will need a seller's permit as well.

i have an online store selling non perishable food items that are not subject to sales tax, do i need any permits? Hello I want to start my own business . I will be reselling non perishable merchandise and buying them in bulk.
