You need a seller's permit, an occupational business license, and an assumed business name registration. If you are an employer, i.e., if you hire workers, you also need a state employer tax id and an IRS employer ID as well.

Main thing I want to do first off is to get all my suppliers in order and for drawing on my business plan getting all my start up costs down on paper I am in Alabama and I am anticipating doing floral work for weddings and events.

Wedding planning requires a seller's permit to buy the materials for decoration wholesale. You also need an EIN because you are an independent contractor business and a DBA, LLC or corporation because all other licenses will be registered under your legal entity selection.

Use tax is imposed on the storage, use or consumption of tangible personal property in this state. The 4.225 percent state sales and use tax is distributed into four funds to finance portions of state government –

General Revenue (3.0 percent), Conservation (0.125 percent), Education (1.0 percent), and Parks/Soils (0.10 percent). Cities and counties may impose a local sales and use tax.

Special taxing districts (such as fire districts) may also impose additional sales taxes. Generally, the department collects and distributes only state and local sales and use taxes.
